Order for the Release of 57 Arrested Bangladeshi Expatriates in the UAE

Fifty-seven Bangladeshi expatriates who were arrested in the UAE for protesting in support of an anti-discrimination student movement have been ordered to be released. UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has granted a pardon for their sentences. Once the pardon is implemented, they will be repatriated. The protests took place in various parts of the UAE last July, where public demonstrations are prohibited, leading to the expatriates being sentenced to life imprisonment and other terms. Following political changes in Bangladesh, there was a demand for their release. This release has been achieved through diplomatic efforts, with the embassy in Bangladesh communicating with the UAE government via telephone.
